Our Approach and Theory of Change

Our approach
Millions of Ukrainian children and youth have been forced from their homes. Many are now refugees abroad — part of the 6.8–6.9 million Ukrainians who fled the country — while others remain among the 3.6 million internally displaced inside Ukraine, driven from frontline and occupied regions. The true number of children still under occupation or deported into Russia remains unknown.

The communities we serve are filled with some of the most inspiring people you’d ever want to meet. Their stories of ingenuity and perseverance are examples for us all.
Our Solution
We asked how we could help. Every solution begins with a question — and the right ones showed us the way forward.
What Makes a Leader?
It begins with a solid foundation: mental health. It’s not about overcoming every hardship, but about nurturing a resilient and healthy mind.
What Builds a Stronger Foundation?
Leadership thrives in connection. Meaningful national and international peer relationships equip young people to thrive within a trusted, purpose-driven community.
What Unlocks Their Drive to Lead?
Safety and education unlock the freedom to dream. When young people feel secure, they can explore their potential and embrace the opportunities around them.
What Builds a Stronger Foundation?
It begins with a solid foundation: mental health. It’s not about overcoming every hardship, but about nurturing a resilient and healthy mind.
This is where the idea for our four-pillar model began.
About Brave Generation Model
Brave Generation offers that path. Our core eight-month program is built on four pillars: Heal, Learn, Connect, and Lead.
Brave Generation is grounded in the belief that Ukraine’s youth, though impacted by conflict, remain powerful agents of recovery. When given the tools to heal, connect, and lead, they can drive transformation in their own lives and across the country.

Phase 1: Rebuilding from Within
Young people begin by restoring their own strength and sense of self.
Mental health: They process trauma and regain emotional stability
Confidence: They discover their worth and believe in their ability to move forward.
Education & skills: They re-enter learning pathways and prepare for future opportunities.
Mentorship: They are guided by trusted peers who help them grow.
Phase 2: Rebuilding the Nation — Giving Back
Once grounded, they turn their growth outward to support others and contribute to recovery.
Internships & civic service: Alumni take part in public, nonprofit, and private sector roles, gaining experience while contributing to Ukraine’s rebuilding.
Mentorship: Alumni guide younger peers, passing on knowledge and encouragement to the next generation.
National renewal: Together, they bring compassion, pride, and resilience to Ukraine’s recovery
Scalable model: This approach becomes a blueprint for youth-led recovery in conflict-affected regions worldwide.
